Amateur Halter classes are well underway this morning at the 2014 AQHA World Championship Show in Oklahoma City, and Thomas and Mimsi Coon of Pilot Point, Texas are racking up World titles one after the other. This morning marked a special occasion because  Thomas won his first ever AQHA World Championship title with Entrigue, a bay filly by Mr Elusive and out of Cool Seduction.

After winning his first World Champion title in an impressive Amateur Weanling Fillies class of 17, Thomas led Hes That Cool to a win in Amateur Yearling Geldings. For those of you who have been keeping up with our coverage from the 2014 APHA World Championship Show, this horse’s name might sound familiar. That’s because the double-registered gelding by Hes So That and out of Cool Skippin Attitude was named the APHA Amateur Yearling Gelding World Champion and APHA Open Yearling Gelding World Champion just a few days ago.

For Thomas, this incredible level of success is simply overwhelming. “The World title with Entrigue, the weanling filly, was my very first World Championship,” he says. “I couldn’t talk; I was so overwhelmed. Then, [the win with] Hes That Cool was my second World Championship.”

“My wife [Mimsi] started things out great at the Select World. She won with Hes That Cool unanimously, and she won with Dream Big Dreams, our two-year-old bay mare, and was unanimous. Also, she was third with FG Ritzee Fella.”

Coming up later today, Thomas will lead Dream Big Dreams in Amateur 2-Year-Old Mares, and only time will tell if there is another World Champion title in his future… “If he keeps doing this, I’m going to rent a wagon [for the awards],” Mimsi says. “I’m so proud of him!”

In addition to family and friends who were watching via the live feed at home, another excited set of viewers were the breeders of Hes That Cool, Kathy and Todd Snodgrass. “Phil and Sue Drawdy of Florida own the stallion, Hes So That, and Kathy owns the mare, Cool Skippin Attitude,” Thomas says.

“I’ve had three texts from Kathy already!” Mimsi adds.

Leading Hes That Cool next week during the open portion of the competition will be trainer Ted Turner. Thomas and Mimsi have relied on the guidance of this experienced horseman for the past two years.

“It’s really been a blessing,” Thomas says. “My horses are always spot on. Ted did give me some advice this morning. He said, ‘Your favorite word is WHOA!’ Especially with the filly, because she was wound tight.”

“There’s no telling [what we will do now to celebrate]. We do have a bottle of champagne!”
