The Green Country Paint Horse Club has developed the Ashley Marie Huntington Memorial Royalty Scholarship contest in honor of the late Ashley Huntington, an APHA member who died October 2013 from Hodgkins Lymphoma.

The $1,000 scholarship and other prizes will be awarded to the winner, and the contest is open to equestrians of any age from anywhere in the United States as long as they plan to attend or are currently enrolled in college. They must attend the GCPHC show July 30–31 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, held in conjunction with the World Wide Paint Horse Congress, for the interview with a former Mrs. Oklahoma, a former Miss Oklahoma Rodeo and one mystery judge; contestants must also participate in a horsemanship class.

Club President Tammy Cramer says Ashley had wanted to earn a scholarship based off her merits as a horsewoman. She knew Ashley both as a member of the GCPHC and as GCPHC Treasurer Julie Huntington’s daughter.

“We thought that was a really good way to memorialize her—for someone to receive something that she had always wanted to receive,” Tammy said.

The competition will consist of 30 percent interview, 30 percent ad sales in the form of ads or class sponsorships, and 40 percent horsemanship class. Applicants should contact Tammie Cramer as soon as possible to enter, so they have the most time to sell ads, but competitors can enter at any time until the show.

“We’re just trying to be really excited about it and show that everyone’s working together for the same cause: the American Paint Horse,” Tammy said.

For more information or to enter the scholarship contest, contact Tammy Cramer at (918) 397-3460.
