The 2018 Built Ford Tough AQHYA World Championship Show will host a reining team event on August 8. Level 3 reining exhibitors are automatically opted into a Ford Youth World reining team competition, which is held concurrently with the Level 3 prelims on August 8 in the Performance Arena. A random draw will divide the entries into five-person teams.

When Ford Youth World exhibitors ride in the Level 3 reining prelims, they will be riding for their spot in the class’ finals, but also for a gold medal in the team competition. The concept of individual and team competition at the Ford Youth World mimics the style of an FEI-level reining event.

At the conclusion of the Level 3 reining prelims on August 8, each team’s low score will be dropped and the top three teams with the highest composite score will be presented awards in the Performance Arena. Then on August 10, footage of the team awards presentation will be broadcast on the big screen in the Jim Norick Arena before the reining finals awards ceremony.

The 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games are slated to take place September 11-23, 2018, in Tryon, North Carolina. The World Equestrian Games are the pinnacle event for international equestrian competition that takes place every four years. This event at the Ford Youth World exposes AQHYA members to FEI-style competition, with the hope that the youth will make the World Equestrian Games or the 2019 FEI Junior and Young Rider Reining World Championships a goal.

The 2019 FEI Junior and Young Rider Reining World Championships is where equestrians, ages 14 to 21, will represent their home countries as they vie for team and individual FEI medals. For more information on the FEI Junior and Young Rider Reining World Championships, visit www.youngriders.org.

About FEI Reining
FEI, founded in 1921, is the governing body for all international equestrian events in dressage and para-equestrian dressage, jumping, eventing, driving and para-equestrian driving, endurance, vaulting and reining. FEI establishes the regulations and approves equestrian programs at world championships, continental and regional games, as well as the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Junior and Young Rider World Championships. Although reining has been a class recognized by AQHA since 1949, it wasn’t until 2000 that reining became an FEI discipline.

About the Ford Youth World
The Ford Youth World is the world’s largest, single-breed world championship horse show open exclusively to youth exhibitors age 18 and under. This is the pinnacle event for youth competitors around the world who must qualify for the event by earning a predetermined number of points to secure a spot in each of the classes representing English, western and halter disciplines, or earn an invitation through their state or provincial affiliate.
