Trump’s New Tax Law to Have Impact on Horse Industry

Estate Tax: The final law ultimately preserves the estate tax, but doubles the current exemptions of $5.49 million for individuals and $10.98 million for married couples. Raising the statutory threshold will reduce the number of farms and family businesses subject to the tax. It will also spare many family-run businesses from jumping over accounting hurdles to avoid the tax altogether.

Coming off the heels of a highly successful Florida Gold Coast Quarter Horse Show over the New Year in Tampa, Florida, the Florida Gulf Coast Quarter Horse Show did not disappoint, turning in big numbers, especially in leveled classes. Although the weather was less than ideal, with unseasonably cold temperatures for this part of the country, competitors came out in droves to rack up large entry totals in classes like Horsemanship, Showmanship, and Trail, especially.

The qualifying period for the Adequan® Select World is June 1 – May 31 each year, and the show traditionally has been held the last week of August, ending on the Saturday of Labor Day. It is AQHA’s preference that the Adequan® Select World Championship Show keep these same qualifying and event dates.
