Cofrancesco said a very candid discussion was held regarding lip chains and potential alternatives that would address the safety concerns of halter horse exhibitors and still meet the AQHA’s standard for animal welfare. Both parties agreed to continue an open dialogue through the end of the AQHA Youth World Championship Show and then set another meeting to finalize their discussions.

The highest placing horse and rider team during the preliminaries was Moa Berglund (who came all the way from Sweden) with Grey Asset; the team received a 226. The second highest placing horse was a tie between Strawberri Wine with Kara Vickery and Al Be Sweet On You with Taylor Searles, both earning a 224. Deanna Green rode Blazinmytroublesaway to round out the top three with a 223.5.

What are the most popular disciplines here at the Youth World? If entry totals are any indication, Western classes still reign supreme with 1,363 entries. English classes show 443 entries and Halter classes show 359 entries. The largest class of the Youth World will be Horsemanship with 172, followed closely by Showmanship with 162. Hunt Seat Equitation has 137 entries and Trail has 130. Finally, Reining rounds out the top five classes with 122 entries.
