Starting December 1, 2019, MPA in horses competing at USEF-licensed competitions will be prohibited. However, due to the length of time involved for MPA to clear a horse’s system, sanctions for a positive test result will begin on June 1, 2020. The USEF has classified MPA as a Category III substance which has a penalty range starting at a 3-6 month suspension and a fine of $3,000-$6,000 for a first offense.

Continue reading …On October 26th, a fire broke out at Carney Performance Horses in Rome, Georgia. Sadly, the fire spread so quickly that the entire barn, apartment, and all 19 horses inside perished within minutes. The only animals saved were a dog and miniature pony. Trainer, Blake Carney, and his partner lived in an apartment located above the barn, so their home and all belongings were lost as well.
Continue reading …Yesterday, the Fort Worth City Council approved a 50-year ground lease for the American Quarter Horse Foundation. This action by the Fort Worth City Council does not mean AQHA has made a definitive commitment to relocate. This is only a step in the process of the possibility of a move. There is no timeline for construction or relocation, as relocation is not guaranteed at this point. It’s important to understand that a move is not imminent and there is no plan for future staffing changes.

Continue reading …Beginning January 1, 2020, American Quarter Horses competing at AQHA-approved shows that test positive for natural cannabinoids, synthetic cannabinoids and other cannabimimetics will be considered in violation of AQHA Rule VIO401.1, which prohibits any stimulant, depressant, tranquilizer or sedative that could affect the performance of a horse. Per AQHA’s revised administrative penalty guidelines, which will be published in the near future, a positive test for such will result in a fine of $2,500, three months suspension and disqualification of the horse.
