
Today’s EC Reader Photo of the Day comes from Melisia Pekny, who sent in these shots of her son, Reese Pekny, after he was named the 13 and Under Golden Horse All-Around Champion at the Palomino World Show. Reese rode his horse, Plenty of Goodscotch, aka “Chester,” to the big win by being named a 4 x World Champion in Hunt Seat Pleasure, Road Hack, Western Pleasure, and Flag Race. He was also the Reserve Champion in Showmanship, NSBA Champion in Western Pleasure, and received Top 3 awards in Horsemanship, Trail, and Color.

The MAQHA Corporate Challenge ended with a bang yesterday in St. Paul, MN. with more than 8,000 total entries across all divisions. According to the new management team, Mark Harrell Horse Shows, that’s an increase of nearly 1,500 AQHA entries.

Exhibitors will compete for added money in various halter classes, thanks to the generosity of 10-year cumulative breeders Steve and Kathy Headley of Bloomington, Indiana, who donated $20,000; 30-year cumulative breeders Gary and Linda Gordon of Fossil Gate Farms, Roanoke, Texas, who donated $50,000; and 30-year cumulative breeder Terry Bradshaw, and his wife, Tammy, who donated $35,000.

This year, the Youth World Show offered over $140,000 in scholarship prizes to AjPHA members competing at the show. Included were scholarships for top finishers in 83 world championship performance and halter classes, along with scholarships for randomly selected entries and other special events. All this in addition to the customary prizes awarded at the show, such as trophy buckles and saddles. Scholarship money was provided by the American Paint Horse Foundation, as well as private donations from APHA members and industry supporters.
