NRHA Derby Watch- Day 4

The 2015 National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Derby held its fourth day of competition on June 23 including the first go, second section of the $183,000 est. Non Pro, plus ancillary classes for open and rookie riders.

Seventeen-year-old Genevieve Shifrin (Basalt, Colo., $51,857 NRHA LTE) has taken the lead in the NRHA Level 4 Non Pro Derby second section of the first go-round of the derby as well as Level 3 and Youth with a smoldering 218 aboard Bella Juice (Smart Like Juice x Bella Conquistador). Shifrin and Bella Juice have made for a tough pair to beat as they won the NRHA Youth Non-Pro Derby 2014. Bella Juice is a 2009 mare with $27,154 NRHA LTE and is owned and nominated by Cache Performance Horses LLC.

Tying for second high score of the day in the Level 4 Non Pro was Brianna Sloan (Whitesboro, Texas, $72,802 NRHA LTE) and Marc Jordan (Elgin, Illi., $107,841 NRHA LTE).

Sloan aboard Pryce Tag (Whiz N Tag Chex x Chic Lil Ruby) and Jordan aboard Revolution Is Dun (Einsteins Revolution x Miss Whiz Done Dunit) scored a 216 to tie for second for the day in the level (L) 4.  Pryce Tag is a 2010 gelding with $30,420 NRHA LTE, is owned by Brianna Sloan and was nominated by Lorenzo Lotti.  Revolution Is Dun is a 2010 with $144,422 NRHA LTE, is owned by Marc and Kathy Gordon and was nominated by JCM Ranch Operating LLC. Revolution Is Dun achieved success in last year’s derby with Martin Larcombe becoming reserve champions in the NRHA Level 4 Open Derby.

APHA Solid Open, Show 2 – Jeremy Zangl / Groovy Spook

Wednesday will start at 8 a.m. in Coliseum with the first section of first go-round of the  $395,000 est. Open Derby. The Adequan Championship Arena starts at 9 a.m. with ancillary classes including the $6,000-added Non Pro, $3,000-added Intermediate Non-Pro, $500-added Prime Time Non Pro, Silver Spurs Equine 7&Up Non Pro Class and Amateur USA Reining.

At 1 p.m. the NRHyA Anderson Bean Speaking Contest will be held in the Barn 3 Sale Arena. In addition, the Platinum Performance Non Pro Draw Party Reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Barn 3 Sale Arena with the Draw to follow at 6 p.m.
