No. 2 TCU Drops No. 8 SMU, 11-7, During Ft. Worth Stock Show Duel

TCU improved to 5-1 on the season with the win.

FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 2 TCU opened its spring season in fine fashion Friday, downing No. 8 SMU at the annual Fort Worth Stock Show Duel, 11-7.

On the day, the Horned Frogs, who claimed three out of four MOP honors, outscored the Mustangs, 1,481.5-1,460.5. With the win, TCU improved to 5-1 overall, including 3-0 in home meets this season. The Frogs are also 4-1 all-time inside John Justin Arena and have won three-straight.

Collecting MOP’s Friday were Kari Hancock in Equitation on the Flat, Megan McMullen in Horsemanship and Shelby St. Hilaire in Reining.

TCU simply dominated Western Friday night in front of an electrifying crowd of almost a 1,000 spectators, winning 7-2. In Reining, Chantz Stewart got the Frogs going early, dropping Morgan Redwine, 72.5-69.5. Brooke Boyle was also victorious, downing Casey Bibbs, while St. Hilaire defeated Keagan Snively, 71.5-67.5. With the win, the junior claimed her first MOP of the season and moved to 3-1-1 on the season.

In Horsemanship, McMullen led the way, earning her third MOP of the year with a 74-70.5 drubbing of Jaclyn White on Dream. Rylee Morgan and Katelyn Gray rounded out the Horned Frog notables in the event, defeating Kristen Schramm and Courtney Line, respectively.

On the Hunt Seat side, SMU narrowly dropped the Purple and White by a final score of 5-4 in the morning session, which took place in Springtown at Turning Point Ranch.

In Equitation on the Flat, Hancock stole the show, scoring an 80-76 decision over Sylvia de Toledo to improve to 5-1-0 on the season, while claiming her fourth MOP. Freshman Jayme Omand scored the only other point for TCU in the discipline, dropping Leina King. Senior Kaitlin Perry appeared to have scored a point, but battled to a 77-77 draw on Tag. Perry is now 4-0-2 on the season in the discipline.

Perry continued her winning ways in Equitation over Fences Friday morning, upending Emma Roberts, 80-76. With the win, the senior remained unbeaten on the year at 6-0-0. Molly Peddicord was just as dominate, scoring a 78-72 decision over Alex Butterworth.

TCU will next be in action at Turning Point Ranch against No. 1 Baylor Saturday, Feb. 14. Start time is set for 10:00 a.m.
