Sandra Morgan

Sandra Morgan

By: Brittany Bevis

Sandra Morgan won the first class of the morning aboard Was Meant To Be in the BCF 4-6 Year-Old Limited Open Hunter Under Saddle. The 4-year-old gelding she calls “Omar” is by her late stallion, Good I Will Be.

“I bought him, and then I bought Good I Will Be a month later, so I changed his name to Was Meant To Be,” she says. “He’s great-legged, great-necked, and easy to ride. Did I mention he’s great-minded? He’s the whole package.”

This pair currently competes under the guidance of Allison Clark and have won numerous titles this year, starting at the first show of the year in Florida in the Open and Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle Maturity. Also, a few weeks ago in Raleigh, NC, the pair won the Open Limited Maturity and was Reserve in the Non-Pro. Yesterday, Sandra rode another Good I Will Be-bred horse, I’m How Good, to place Reserve in the 2-Year-Old Non-Pro Limited Hunter Under Saddle.

Terry Cross

Terry Cross

Over in the Mustang Arena, Terry Cross led Krymsun Cappuccino to win the Color Longe Line class for owner Rebecca Hogan. This beautiful buckskin filly is a registered Appaloosa by One Hot Krymsun. This is “Scout’s” first horse show, and Terry was very pleased with the result.

“We got her the first of April,” he says. “We really fell in love with her. She’s so strong, good up front, and good minded. She will definitely be a Western Pleasure horse, but she has some size to her, so she’ll be able to do the all-around stuff too.”

When Terry scouts out a Longe Line prospect, he specifically looks for a foal with a lot of self-carriage. “You don’t want to have to get these babies so tired that they’re grouchy. They need to have that lift and desire to move up and through their bodies and shoulders.”

Caroline Fredenburg

Caroline Fredenburg

Following Longe Line, 12-year-old Caroline Fredenburg won her first NSBA World Championship title with Zippos Hot Jet. Although she’s just 12 years old, Caroline tells us that she’s been showing horses for the past six years. She and “George” compete under the guidance of Tommy Sheets. This past weekend, Caroline won the Novice Youth All-Around title at the Show Your Colors portion of the NSBA World Show. She enjoys competing in Horsemanship, Trail, Western Riding, Hunter Under Saddle, Equitation, and Showmanship.

“In this pattern, I really liked the beginning where we walked two horse lengths,” she says. “Also, our stops were really good and our transitions and turns were spot on. Tommy told me to make sure I counted how many steps to walk and to keep my body upright.”

Courtney Archer and Dad

Courtney Archer and her new horse, Aint Gota Lot, aka “BobB,” won the BCF 4-6 Year-Old Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle. They’ve been a pair since just before the Big A horse show this summer.

“Charlie Cole and Jason Martin have had him since he was three years old,” she says. “He was Reserve at the World Show in Junior Hunter Under Saddle with Beth Case. He’s an oversize Western horse, and that’s what I’ve always told Jason that I wanted.”

Just prior to the show, Courtney and BobB won the Novice Amateur Hunter Under Saddle circuit at the Big A and the Show For Dough. Later on at the show, BobB will show in Senior Hunter Under Saddle, Novice Amateur Hunter Under Saddle, and Green Western Riding before heading to the Congress in the fall.

Clay Arrington

Clay Arrington

Finally, Clay Arrington rode his filly, RV Wonit Lopin Lazy, to win the 2-Year-Old Non-Pro Intermediate Western Pleasure. Clay and his family raised the Lazy Loper filly he calls “Layla.” “I started her myself,” he says. “She is an easy, slow loper and very natural.”

Clay will also show Layla here in the 2-Year-Old Limited Open Western Pleasure. Although he’s just 16, Clay doesn’t have a problem showing against horse trainers in the open division. “It depends on what horse I have,” he says. “If I’m on a good one, I can sit back and show it all day long!”
