The American Quarter Horse Association has released the most recent disciplinary actions taken by the AQHA Executive Committee.

During its meetings, the Executive Committee reviews the AQHA Animal Welfare Grievance Committee’s (AWGC) recommendations on cases involving inhumane treatment violations. If the Executive Committee approves a recommendation of the AWGC, it will authorize AQHA staff to forward an offer of penalty to the individual who is the subject of such case. The subject can accept the penalty or reject it and request a hearing before the Executive Committee. If the subject of such case accepts the penalty, information is then updated on the AQHA disciplinary actions list. If such individual requests a hearing before the Executive Committee, information regarding the outcome of the case will be published once everything is finalized after the hearing with the Executive Committee.

With respect to drug violations, the Executive Committee has granted AQHA staff the authority to offer individuals who are the subject of a drug violation an offer of penalty from established penalties that have been previously issued for violations associated with specific drugs and/or specific categories of drugs. If an offer of penalty is rejected and a hearing is requested, the matter is referred to the Show Rule Violations Committee (SRVC). As a result of an SRVC hearing, the SRVC issues its recommendation to the Executive Committee. If the Executive Committee approves the recommendations of the SRVC, it will authorize AQHA staff to forward an offer of penalty to the individual who is the subject of such case.

The AQHA disciplinary actions list contains information regarding AQHA disciplinary actions associated with animal welfare, unsportsmanlike conduct and medication-related violations. With respect to medication violations, the list only contains disciplinary actions taken with respect to violations that resulted in a suspension and/or associated with a positive test for a forbidden substance as set forth in AQHA Rule VIO401.

An AQHA suspension list can be found in The American Quarter Horse Journal and at www.aqha.com/suspensions. This list contains suspensions issued by AQHA ranging from failure to pay fees to animal welfare cases.
