Largest NRHA Derby on Record is Underway- Photos and Results

NRHA press release by: Christa Morris – Horses are still being entered for the 2014 National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Derby Show, but to-date, the event looks to be the largest on record with more than 450 horses entered in the Derby and hundreds more in ancillary classes. The show is underway and has an abundant supply of great reining and family fun on this year’s schedule. The show runs June 21-28 at Oklahoma State Fair Park in Oklahoma City, Okla.

FREE ADMISSION – June 21-28

Join us all week, or be sure to attend the NRHA Derby Finals Performances in the Jim Norick Coliseum Arena on Friday, June 27 and Saturday, June 28. We’ll showcase the world’s best 4, and 6-year-old reining horses competing for their share of more than $650,000 in added money, plus awards and bragging rights. In addition, shop to your heart’s content in the Coliseum concourse and barn areas. From home decor to western bling, we have a great selection for the whole family!

Talk to a Gold Medalist – 2014 U.S. Reining Squad Will Attend

The U.S. Reining Squad for the 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games will be in Oklahoma City competing throughout the week. These riders will compete against 24 other countries for gold, silver and bronze medals during the August 23 to September 7 World Equestrian Games in Normandy, France. See them in Oklahoma City as they prepare to for their gold medal run!

U.S. Reining Team Members include:

Shawn Flarida – NRHA’s all-time leading open rider and 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games Team Gold medalist

Mandy McCutcheon – NRHA’s all-time leading non pro rider and an NRHA Two Million Dollar Rider

Tom McCutcheon – 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games Individual and Team Gold medalist (pictured)

Jordan Larson – NRHA Million Dollar Rider

Andrea Fappani – NRHA Three Million Dollar Rider

Troy Heikes – Highly respected reining trainer and NRHA Professional

Members of team from other countries will be in attendance as well.

Puppies & Popsicles

Stop by the Platinum Performance Party Patio on Sunday, June 22 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for pet adoptions and vaccinations provided by the Tulsa Humane Society. The patio is located near the Capitol City Café. Everyone is invited to attend and enjoy refreshing popsicles at 4 p.m. on Sunday. The patio will play host to many other fun activities. IEA Western National Finals

For the third year running, the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) and NRHA will join together to host the IEA Western National Finals during the 2014 NRHA Derby Show. The Western National Finals, sponsored by NRHA, features 150 of the nation’s top middle school and high school western riders representing approximately 30 teams from seven zones throughout the United States. The finalists competed in multiple competitions throughout their regular season and zone finals to qualify for the IEA National Finals competition.

With $650,000 in estimated added money, the NRHA Derby welcomes thousands of spectators, exhibitors and horses attend the event each year. The Derby is one of two major events presented by NRHA each year in Oklahoma City and includes two full slates of ancillary reining classes in addition to the aged-event action.
