UPDATE: First Halter Win of 2013 Quarter Horse Congress Goes to Ross Roark, HR Lady Secret, and Elusive Premonition For Josh Weakly

UPDATE: Just moments ago, Ross Roark and Josh Weakly went two for two winning another Congress Championship title in Aged Mares with Elusive Premonition. Which horse will they choose to show for Grand and Reserve? The Congress Champion Weanling or Congress Champion Aged Mare? You’ll just have to wait and see…

The first halter winner of the 2013 All American Quarter Horse Congress has just been crowned, and the victors are certainly no strangers to the winner’s circle. Ross Roark led HR Lady Secret to a win in the Open Weanling Fillies for owner Josh Weakly. This sorrel mare is by I Gotta Cool Secret and out of a Te Coolest mare.

“Not a bad start!” Weakly says. “We bought her from Jimmie Hardin, and we showed her two weeks ago at Tunica. We’ve owned her about six weeks. She won the WCHA Junior Fillies, and I won the Big Money Weanling Filly class with her. They have five classes, and that one was the Amateur Weanling Fillies. Then, Ross showed her and won in the Open. She’s done well so far.”

Little “Lady” hasn’t just done “well,” she is undefeated thus far in her first year of competition. That’s a trend Weakly hopes to continue when he takes the lead next week in the Amateur Weanling Fillies.

“We’re going to show her in the Congress Breeder’s Halter Futurity here,” he says. “Also, I’ll show her in the Amateur portion of that. I’ll also show her in the regular Amateur portion next Saturday.”

This recently crowned Congress Champion is one of three horses Weakly brought to the Congress this year. Ross Roark will lead an aged mare for Weakly later on today, and Luke Castle will show his two-year-old gelding next week. Both of the older horses will be making the trip to Oklahoma City for the AQHA World Show, however, Lady won’t be attending.

“It’s hard, especially on the younger horses,” he says. “You have to pick and choose. We have a different weanling filly for the World Show that we won with in Iowa. I will show her at the World Show in Amateur, and Luke will show her in the Open. She is by Linda Gordon’s stallion, Image Of Kid.”

Coming in Reserve in this class was Dewey Smith with PF Divine Grace for Chester and Ann Prince. Mrs. Prince continued her winning ways by taking the Limited Division Congress Championship title in the class with PF One Hot Chrome.
