Today marks the conclusion of Open Halter classes here at the 2018 Quarter Horse Congress. First, Ted Turner led Dinnero to win Performance Geldings for Gerald Fleisner. The Reserve Champion was Tom Robertson with Betta Believe It. Third was Tim Finkenbinder with I Can’t Sleep. Fourth was Luke Castle with Tees Coolest. Fifth was Chris Russell with Simply One Hot. This was also the Limited Champion team.

Dinnero was raised by Gerald Fleisner and Kathi Lawrence. He’s by I Gotta Cool Secret and out of a World Champion producing daughter of Cluition named Sweet Sugar Clu.

For his performance points, Dinnero competes in Barrel Racing and Poles. “We actually ran him last year at the World Show before we even had to because of the new requirement,” Lawrence says. “He was the youngest to run and would’ve had a call back in Level 3 Poles, but he knocked one down. He was fourth in Level 2 Poles.”

At the AQHA World Show, Randy Jacobs will show Dinnero in Halter, and he will also be shown in Barrels and Poles once again. “He’s really good minded,” Lawrence says. “His mother was a multiple World Champion producer, and he won a lot as a weanling. Then, we turned him out and brought him back as a two-year-old. He’s very athletic and good-minded. He can pretty much do just about anything. He was shown in Ranch Rail at the NSBA World Show this year.”

Ross Roark with Heza Divine Agent

Ross Roark led Heza Divine Agent to win Weanling Geldings for Steve and Kathy Headley. The Reserve Champion was Tom Robertson with The Gronkowski. The Yearling Gelding winner was Ted Turner with Solair for Anthony Bladen. The Reserve Champion was Steve Ferguson with Illicit Intention. Third was Tom Robertson with Elusive Pick. Fourth was Jeffrey Pait with Scorz. Fifth was Greg Davis with Ikonic Kowboi.

Steve Ferguson with Illicit Intention

Steve Ferguson led Illicit Intention to win the Yearling Gelding Elite Halter Futurity for Amy Jo Erhardt. Last year, “Harry” was named the Reserve Congress Champion in Open Weanling Geldings and won the Elite Halter Futurity. He’s by My Intention.

“I think he’s great legged, and he’s got a lot of muscle,” Steve Ferguson says. “He’s balanced, short-backed, and has a good neck and pretty head.”

Coming up next, Erhardt will show Harry in the amateur division.

Ross Roark with Lu Scion

Ross Roark was at the lead of Lu Scion to win 2-Year-Old Geldings for Josh Weakly. The Reserve Champion was Tom Robertson with Mr MVP. Third was Steve Ferguson with Guns and Leather. Fourth was Mitch Leonarski with Maui Jym. Fifth was Luke Castle with Total Intention.

Steve Ferguson also led Guns and Leather to win the Limited division of 2-Year-Old Geldings for Amy Jo Erhardt. He’s by Western Gunslinger and a full brother to the late, great mare, Guns And Lace.

“Personality-wise, he’s so cool. He never gets rattled and he’s always so calm,” Erhardt says.

Coming up next week, Erhardt’s daughter, Kristin Cole, will show “Gunner,” in the amateur division. “It’s her first time showing at the Congress. She used to show when she was a kid, but then she went to school, got married, and had kids. Now, she’s just coming back. Her daughter, Audrey, will be showing all four of our horses in the youth division: Guns and Leather, Illicit Intention, Be A Diva, and DMM Secret Sinsation.

Tom Robertson with Mister Over Easy

Tom Robertson led Mister Over Easy to win 3-Year-Old Geldings for Christine West. The Reserve Champion was Jeffrey Pait with Exceptional Bachelor. Third was Ronald Stratton with Zydaco. Fourth was Mike McMillian with Payzone. Fifth was Andy Staton with Hez On Top.

Ross Roark with Its Gameday

Ross Roark was at the lead of Its Gameday for Josh Weakly in Aged Geldings. The Reserve Champion was Tom Robertson with Coos Me In The Dark. Third was John Boxell with Ima Cool Catch. Fourth was Ted Turner with SS Rampage. Fifth was Steve Ferguson with DMM Secret Sinsation.
