Changes, Updates, and Exciting Additions to BHF in 2021

Breeders Halter Futurity

We have lots of exciting news from the Breeders Halter Futurity. Our Mare Power Program is very strong. We have 201 mares enrolled for 2021.

These classes are open to foals sired by any participating BHF Stallion. The mare must be enrolled in the 2021 Mare Power Program and all of her 2021 weanling foals are eligible for the Mare Power Classes.

At our September 2021 event, we will offer four Mare Power Classes:

  • Mare Power Jr. Weanling Colts and Geldings
  • Mare Power Sr. Weanling Colts and Geldings
  • Mare Power Jr. Weanling Fillies
  • Mare Power Sr. Weanling Fillies

Jr. eligibility is based on an April 1st or later breeding date of the mare. The purse for each class will be determined based on the percentage of Jr. and Sr. foals that are pre-entered in the class. Linda Gordon has added $15,000 to the Mare Power Purse.

Just a reminder that the BHF Board of Directors voted to change the Amateur Exhibitor rules for 2021. If a horse is eligible for more than one class and it is to be shown with an Amateur Exhibitor, the same Amateur Exhibitor must show the horse in all entered classes at the BHF. The only exceptions to this rule are the youth classes. An eligible youth exhibitor may show the same horse in the applicable Youth Halter class.

The BHF Board of Directors also voted to change some horse eligibility rules. Beginning in 2021, only the 1st place horse from any BHF Class and only the World Champion from any AQHA Level 3 Amateur or Open Class are ineligible to compete in future BHF Halter Classes. If you have a horse that previously placed 2nd or 3rd and you would like to show again at the BHF, there is a “Catch-Up Nomination Form” for you to pay a $200 yearly nomination fee for every year the horse was ineligible. Then, you will pay a current 2021 nomination fee and your horse is eligible to show at the BHF.

Our DIY Classes are now available to BHF Open and BHF Color Division Stallions who pay a fee in order to make their foals eligible to participate in the DIY Classes. The fee of $2000 will make all their 2021 weanling foals eligible. If you are interested in making your stallion eligible for the DIY Classes, please contact Karen Kennedy. The stallion must be paid by prior to our first entry deadline of July 15, 2021.

We are offering our Yearling Longe Class again in 2021. The purse for this class is $25,000, which was graciously donated by Kathy and Steve Headley. Rules for the Longe Line class can be found on our website at www.breedershalterfuturity.com.

New for 2021, we are offering a Western Pleasure and Performance Halter Class for horses that are 2 to 5 years of age.   This class is open to horses sired by any sire that ever participated in the BHF.  In order to be eligible to compete, the horse must have a current 2021 paid nomination.  This class will be a $30,000 purse, which was generously donated by Kathy and Steve Headley, Billy and Suzonne Franks, and Penny and Jerry Robinson.  Rules for this class can be found on our website at www.breedershalterfuturity.com.

The judges have been selected for our event:

  • Steve Ferguson
  • Tim Finkenbinder
  • JT Mitchell
  • Olin Parker

We are excited to announce that our new computer program is up and running. If you are using a credit card to nominate your horse, you will now go to the website to complete your nomination. The new online nomination program will be much easier for you. You also can look up a horse and see if it is currently nominated. Please visit our website at www.breedershalterfuturity.com.

Please visit our website for all the latest news. Please check the Stallion Listings for any new stallions that are now nominated to the Breeders Halter Futurity. Our show will be held September 14 -18, 2021 in Des Moines, Iowa at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. Our show schedule will be available soon.
