After the Levee Breaks: Equestrian Family Unites to Help One of Their Own Devastated by Flood- Judge Chele McGauly

Over the past eleven days, a whopping $24,965 has been raised by 138 people, but there is need for that total to rise even higher. With the funds raised thus far, Chele was able to pay for flood damage equipment, a dumpster, and a port-a-potty. The hope now is to bring in large fans to dry out some of the damage within the barn.

The survey found that 75 percent of members are female and 49 percent of members are age 56 and older. The survey also revealed that the majority of AQHA members own five horses or fewer and have been riding for more than 20 years. The majority of members ride for recreation and fun.

“It was one of the saddest days of my life when I had to take Jet Set Sheik to Rood & Riddle [Equine Hospital] to be laid to rest. They were so good about letting me stay with him for a while to say my goodbyes to the ‘little man.’ I have so many wonderful memories with this guy; he wasn’t just a horse to me, he was my friend and family.”
