“The Young Horse Development Program was developed to help youth gain hands-on experience in working with and training horses,” said Craig Huffhines, AQHA executive vice president. “The program gives youth a mentor to learn from and showcase their hard work and dedication to their project. This will, in turn, give participants a skill set that will set them apart when applying for scholarships, college and jobs.”

Thanks to the generosity of 10-year cumulative breeders Steve and Kathy Headley of Bloomington, Indiana, who donated $20,000, and 30-year cumulative breeders Gary and Linda Gordon of Fossil Gate Farms, located in Roanoke, Texas, who donated $50,000, exhibitors will compete for added money in various halter classes.

This year, the Built Ford Tough Livestock Complex at Expo Square played host to 1,300 Pintos and more than 2,250 exhibitors from 43 states and four countries, including: Canada, Sweden, Denmark and Australia. This year, the PWC had over 30,000* judged class entries. Produced by the Pinto Horse Association of America Inc., the Pinto World Championship® showcased many disciplines for just about every type of equine, from: Western Pleasure, Showmanship, Barrel Racing and much more.

“This is my first year winning this contest. I was really anxious this morning to get up and see how I did,” Connor said. “My teammates and I have had a wonderful time in Fort Worth, and the judging competition has been great.”

“The gate this year will not be a rope gate, but a more commonly used metal gate,” said Pete Kyle, AQHA chief show officer. “We encourage qualifiers to practice opening and closing your gates at home to be ready to compete in trail.”
