Walk-Trot Classes Coming to All AQHA L1 Championships

AQHA walk-trot classes are making their debut at the 2018 AQHA West, AQHA Central and Nutrena East Level 1 Championships this spring. Also new this year, there are no qualifying requirements to show at the AQHA Level 1 Championships. Beginning with the 2018 events, all Level 1- and Rookie-eligible exhibitors are welcome to compete at one of the Level 1 Championships.

2018 Paint Horse Championship Criteria Adjustments Focus on National Recognition for Regional Exhibitors

New for 2018:
– The Paint Horse Championship must take place at a 1-, 2-, 3- or 4-judge show within the host zone.
– The event cannot take place at a Zone show.
– Exhibitors’ eligibility criteria has been modified:
– Halter exhibitors cannot have placed in the Top Five in a halter class at the APHA World Championship Show within the last 10 years (2009–2018) or won a Paint Horse Championship halter class the previous year.
– Performance exhibitors cannot have placed in the Top 10 in a performance class at the APHA World Championship Show within the last 10 years (2009–2018) or won a Paint Horse Championship halter class the previous year.
– Horse eligibility restrictions based on past World Show performances have been eliminated.
– Paint Horse Championship entry fees cannot exceed $20 per class

The Georgia Bulldogs remain in the top spot for the first set of rankings of the spring season. The SMU Mustangs remain at the No. 2 position as the Oklahoma State Cowgirls move up to No. 3. The Texas A&M Aggies move down to the No. 4 position after a loss to TCU last Thursday. The Auburn Tigers and the Fresno State Bulldogs hold at the No. 5 and 6 positions.

Top Stallion Owners, Distinguished Service Award Winner, and More to be Honored at 2018 APHA Ceremony

A new award, the Top Stallion Owner awards will recognize the Top 10 stallion owners, based on mares bred by their stallions in 2016 according to APHA stallion breeding reports. No. 1 on this year’s list is Arcese Quarter Horses USA of Weatherford, Texas, who had two stallions that bred a total of 290 mares in 2016. Their top breeding stallion is Gunnatrashya, a 2006 sorrel solid stallion by Colonels Smokingun and out of Natrasha. A Million Dollar Sire with the National Reining Horse Association, Gunnatrashya bred 288 mares in 2016.
