TX Gov Suspends EIA Rules to Facilitate Horse Evacuation Ahead of Hurricane Laura

Today, Governor Greg Abbott temporarily suspended portions of the Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) rules that require negative equine infectious anemia (EIA) tests results in the last 12 months to board, stable or pasture equine at congregation points. The rules were suspended to facilitate the evacuation of equine and equine owners in advance of Hurricane Laura making landfall. This suspension is in effect until terminated by the Office of the Governor or until the 90th day following the suspension.

2020 Select World Will Now be Held at AQHA World Show

The 2020 AQHA Select World Championship Show, presented by Adequan® (polysulfated glycosaminoglycan), will be held in conjunction with the AQHA World Championship Show, slated for November 5-21 at the OKC Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City. The Adequan® Select World, originally scheduled for August 31 – September 6 at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, Texas, was postponed to help protect the health and safety of Select exhibitors, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Second place was Kristy Starnes with The Lopin Illusion, winning $7,500. Third was Clay Arrington with Made In The Dark, winning $5,000. Fourth was Mike Hachtel with The Best Principles for Jane Backes, winning $3,500. Splitting fifth was Chris Jones with Sheza Good Mechanic, winning $2,750 for Kassandra Fordice and Brian Cox with Theexclusivemartini, winning $2,750 for Jeffrey Carpenter.

“Several factors went into the consideration of this difficult decision, including but not limited to the health and safety of attendees, many of whom are within the largest at-risk age range and have expressed their concerns about attending the event, in addition to the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in Fort Worth,” said Justin Billings, AQHA chief show officer. “We are currently living in a world full of uncertainty. However, what is certain is that AQHA leadership and staff are committed to listening to our members and protecting the health and safety of our exhibitors, members and staff during this unprecedented time. This means making decisions, like this one, that are in the best interest of the well-being of our Select members, who fall within the largest at-risk age group.”
