Luke Castle led the weanling bay stallion, Telling My Secretz, to a win in the first class of the day here at the 2013 AQHA World Show for owner Melinda Clark. “Huck” is by Telasecret and out of Priceless Te and was bred by Dick Adams of Illinois. For Clark, it was love at first sight.

“I saw a picture of him in the stall with Andy [Staton],” Clark says. “It wasn’t the most beautiful stand-up-are-you-going-to-buy-this-thing picture, but I just liked him. I fell in love with him when I first saw him. I started communicating with Andy about what he was, who he belonged to, and if he was for sale. I liked everything about him, but what topped it off was his disposition. He’s something I can show. That’s what was icing on the cake.”

Huck’s calm demeanor and sweet personality was evident as he rested his head on Castle’s arm during the individual judges’ placings.

“He’s a sweetheart,” she says. “He’s fun to show. We got him right before the futurities started from Dick Adams. In Des Moines, he won the Breeders Halter Futurity and the National Halter Championships. Then, he went to Congress and got five trophies out there. And here we are!”

Clark showed Huck last week in the amateur division of this class and received a Reserve World Champion title her first time competing at a World Show. She credits their recent success to her team of trainers, breeders, and leaders.

“Andy and Jeff Staton are pretty awesome, and Luke has shown him every time,” she says. “Andy and Jeff fit the horses and take pretty good care of us. It’s a good group. Go Team Staton!

Looking towards the future, both Clark and Adams are hoping Huck may have a future as a breeding sire with his impeccable pedigree, excellent conformation, and show-ready personality.

“He’s got a great mother,” Adams says. “He’s got good genes, and he’s bred to death, so we think he just got to keep throwing that big ol’ hind leg and big ol’ butt that he’s got.”
