“Buckskins Are Better!”- 2017 ABRA World Show Recap

Filed under: Club & Show News,Club and Show News,Featured |

A071-962-A071-3293American Buckskin Registry Association

American Buckskin Registry Association’s 30th annual World Show was a huge success, and we would like to thank the staff, Board of Directors, sponsors, and exhibitors for making that happen. The World Show ended as one of the largest in several years, it not the largest.

ABRA kicked off their 30th Anniversary World Show with their first Youth Judging Contest. Eleven teams entered and individual contestants also. The Rogers County 4-H Team won the competition and received monogrammed jackets from Tioga Territory and medallions. The 1st place individual was Brandy Patton from the Fawnhill Farm Girls Team from Michigan. She won a Dale Chavez Buckle sponsored by The Cain Family.

The evening festivities to kick off the World Show included a miniature horse exhibition put on by ABRA member Ruby Priorie in which several classes were demonstrated and the beautiful movement of these horses was on display. Several were in attendance and enjoyed the Pizza Party, sponsored by Char-Lin Ranch, and 40 free admission tickets were given away for Safari Joe’s H2O water park and reptile world. Many got to enjoy those tickets during the week since the Water Park is on the Tulsa Expo grounds.

W057_962-W057-2554The addition of the Amateur Walk Trot Western Pleasure Class had more participation than expected. Thank you Angie Dale/Saddle Solutions and Faren Anderson/Spurs and Arrows for sponsoring the class. The membership has requested more Amateur Walk Trot classes be added to the World Show and the Board of Directors will be deciding that during the Annual Convention in November.

While everyone was enjoying the added money classes, preparations were being made for the live auction of Hershey Kisses, an ABRA registered Buckskin Pony donated by Kitty Pruitt Pony Farm in Texas to raise money for the Youth Activity Fund. Hershey Kisses raised $2,300 and went home with Megan Hollands and her children. Thank you Marsha Brantly for purchasing first and donating him back to be re-purchased. It was an awesome fundraiser.

Another awesome fundraiser was the live auction of a 2018 breeding to AQHA stallion It’s a Southern Thing that was donated by Amy Gumz. The $1,700 raised during this fundraiser went to the ABRA Youth Continued Education Fund where youth of all ages will compete for dollars to help with school clothing, school books, winter coats, etc. Thank you, Jennifer O’Neil for purchasing this breeding. We all got to watch “Moonpie’s” first Buckskin foal compete and win the Yearling Longe Line. Watch for Southern Sweetie Pie, owned by Jean Brooks in the coming years.

O070_962-O070-3260There were many other fun activities that were enjoyable for the exhibitors and spectators: Bouncy Horse Races, Frisbee Toss, Golf Cart Races, and Spear Toss just to name a few. ABRA is proud to be able to have a Youth Committee Chair such as Patty Maxwell coordinating these events. We do send our condolences to Patty as she had a family death and had to leave the show. A special thanks to Janelle Schaefer for all her work filling in for Patty. ABRA appreciates all our sponsors and wants to thank Drysdales, Inc for their Gold Sponsorship status. A lot of the fun activities would not be able to happen without you.

Rachel Hoopman prepared to hand her crown off to the incoming ABRA Youth Representative, but everyone was surprised when there was a tie, and a tie on the tie breaker, so two were crowned! Congratulations to Keely Seiter – KS and Emma Schaefer – IA for all your hard work.
