Returning Champions, Beth Case and Look N Hott, defended their 2013 win in Senior Hunter Under Saddle to take the top spot again this evening at the 2014 AQHA World Championship Show. “JJ” has been one quite a roll this fall winning every Senior Hunter Under Saddle class he competed in at the NSBA World Show, All American Quarter Horse Congress, and now AQHA World Show. He also won a Select Hunter Under Saddle World Championship back in September with owner Laurel Champlin in the saddle.

However, all that time in the show pen had Champlin a bit worried JJ might run out of steam by the time the World Show came around.

“Last year, when he came here, he didn’t go to the Congress, so he was all rested,” Champlin says. “JJ likes his rest. This year, we had four riders on him at the Congress, and we all won. It was a fantastic Congress, but then he only had ten days to rest [before coming here].”

“When they said to reverse, I left. I walked out, and I didn’t watch. Then, when they said to trot the second direction, I came back in and watched a little. I was a little nervous for Beth, but she said he was great and did everything she wanted him to do. We defended our title this year, and it’s kind of nerve-wracking coming back.”

Not only did JJ put his best hoof forward in the show pen this evening, Champlin noted the high level of competition and praised the talent of the other horses and riders in the class.

“I was really impressed with the class today,” she says. “JJ has won every Senior Hunter Under Saddle at the NSBA, Congress, and World Show, so it’s just mindboggling; it truly is, in this group of horses.”

“He is very smooth, and his topline really doesn’t move. When he uses his ears, he’s just gorgeous. It’s about the overall look and profile of him. When he lopes, it’s just a fluid beautiful gait, and I think that’s what distinguishes him. Also, Beth always puts him in the right places so you can’t help but look at him.”

At 17.2 hands tall, JJ is the picture of the perfect Hunter Under Saddle horse, but Champlin hinted we may see more of him in Western events in 2015. She hopes to add Green Western Riding, Horsemanship, and Showmanship, to their repertoire.
