AQHA competitors in the northeast United States celebrated Memorial Day weekend in Lake St. Louis, Missouri for the 2015 Gateway Classic. The event began with a Special Event show on Thursday that was judged by Jennifer Leckey. The remaining triple-judged split combined shows were judged by Leslie Lange, Michael Colvin, Nancy Alto-Renfro, Kelly Stone, Debra Jones-Wright, and Mike Weaver. Then, an additional Novice show was judged by Karen Craighead.

With a brand new schedule to test out this year and the addition of even more Equestrians With Disabilities classes, show management was hoping for an excellent turnout and some stiff competition. They received their wish with some of the largest L1 Amateur and Select Amateur Western Pleasure classes seen around the country thus far with 22 and 17, respectively.

Check out some of the largest class sizes recorded at the show.

  • L1 Amateur Horsemanship- 17
  • Amateur Select Western Pleasure- 17
  • L1 Amateur Western Pleasure- 22

Also, during those early mornings, competitors were treated to bagels courtesy of The Doles Family. On Memorial Day, Trevor Forness prepared a BBQ Luncheon while exhibitors were invited to participate in a “Ride The Pattern” demonstration with Kendra Weis. Special thanks to everyone who purchased raffle tickets for the iPad Raffle to benefit the Therapeutic Horsemanship’s Freedom Reins Veterans Program. More than $1,200 was raised!
