AQHA Weanling Gelding World Championship For Chris Arentsen, Bonnie Overbeck, and Chilling

Kicking off this morning’s Open Halter classes at the 2014 AQHA World Championship Show was an impressive Weanling Gelding class. Claiming the World Champion spot was Chris Arentsen with Chilling for owner Bonnie Overbeck.

Chilling is a 2014 sorrel gelding by Very Cool and out of GG Lodi Go Te. Both fit and shown by Chris Arentsen of Trenton, Illinois, this solid sorrel gelding was able to claim Bonnie Overbeck’s first Open AQHA World Champion title today. Just a few months ago, Overbeck was named the World Champion in Amateur Weanling Geldings at the Select World Show in Amarillo, TX.

The gelding Overbeck fondly refers to as “Odie” first caught her eye for his balanced conformation and sweet personality.

“He was a very nicely put together colt and had a wonderful disposition; that’s what kind of sold him for me,” Overbeck says. “He seemed easygoing and like he’d make a good show horse.”

Although she’s owned horses for quite some time, Overbeck only recently progressed to this level of AQHA competition. She’s been showing horses on a national level for the past two years.

“I just kind of piddled with them before, but I’ve kind of gotten into it over the last two years,” she says. “We were here last year with an aged gelding that placed seventh, and now we’ve made it to the top with this one. It’s unbelievable; it’s just the thrill of a lifetime!”

A big congratulations goes to Chris Arentsen and Bonnie Overbeck with her first Open AQHA World Champion!

The Reserve World Champion in this class was Ross Roark with Fear This Secret. Third place was Jason Smith with Fransisco. Fourth place was Randy Jacobs with Heza Sidewinder. Rounding out the top five was Kathy Smallwood with Aha.
