The American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum unveils its new exhibit “Nacidos Charros: Born Charro” on January 27. The exhibit will be on display until July 29.

The exhibit celebrates the history and culture surrounding the charro. In Mexico, to be a charro is to be known as a skilled horseman who proudly competes in la charreriaLa charreria is the Mexican art of horse handling which is a deeply engrained part of the Mexican spirit. It is a way of life, a historical legacy and an art of competitive skills and horsemanship.

Inside the exhibit, guests take a cultural tour that explores the rich traditions surrounding the charro. The exhibit starts with the history of the charro and moves on to explore the horses, tack, clothing and music that surrounds the sport. The nine suertes, or events, are brought to life with rich imagery and artifacts. From the women’s escaramuza (horseback drill team) to the more wide-spread events of cala de caballo (reining) and terna en el ruedo (team roping); the exhibit will transport guests to a different place full of color, music and a rich heritage centered around the horse.

Funding support graciously provided by Dr. Kent Roberts and Ilene Roberts Balliett Foundation.

Celebrate the charro January 27 – July 29 and plan your visit at www.aqha.com/museum.
