By: AQHA Amateur 2-Year-Old Stallions Win Goes to Julie Smith With PF Kid Supreme

It was Julie Smith’s turn to show a horse of her very own today in Amateur 2-Year-Old Stallions, her first time competing at the World Show in nine years, and she was able to come away with a World Champion title. Smith’s partner for the class today was PF Kid Supreme, a sorrel stallion by the late MH Supremo and out of Kids Securitee.

“We purchased Dewey in January of this year from Prince Farms with the intent that [my husband] Jason and myself would show him,” Smith says. “After the World Show, we will let him down to be a breeding horse. We have a substantial amount of our own mares, so we thought, if I could be so lucky as to win, that we would keep him for ourselves and breed him to our own mares.”

“It’s quite different [showing myself]. Most of the time, when we have our own horses, one of our children or my mother-in-law shows them. I haven’t shown for eight or nine years. I was fortunate enough to win that year and it was with a 2-year-old stallion as well. It’s always neat to be supportive of the clients and your family, but it is way different when you do it!”

While most of her family was present in Oklahoma City to witness her big win, there’s one family member who had to stay back home in Texas. “[My son] Cooper, Kelsey, and Grandma are here, but [my daughter] Shyanne is at school. She is probably in her Agriculture class watching on the live feed!”

Looking forward to next year, Smith is excited to see what Dewey will bring to the family’s broodmare band. “He has wonderful conformation and structure,” she says. “He is real square made and a good mover. He has a lot of breeding stallion aspects that you look for.”

In the Amateur Performance Halter Stallions class, the World Champion was Angie Watts Schmeck with Inspirado. The Reserve World Champion was Sydney Miller with MTKS Touchdown. Rounding out the top three was Dan Fox with Intersection.
