35th Anniversary of Tom Powers Futurity Kicks Off in Michigan

The 35th anniversary of the Tom Powers Triple Challenge Futurity is now underway in Berrien Springs, Michigan. The event began on June 23rd with the Triple Challenge NSBA/AQHA dual-approved special event that was judged by Steve Brown. Today, the Futurity portion of the show begins and will continue through June 28th. Judges will be Jon Barry, Steve Meadows, Jonathan Meilleur, and Randy Wilson.

In 2014, the Futurity paid back over $318,000 in payouts in addition to trophies and awards. One of the main events, the 2-Year-Old Maiden Stakes class paid back $55,000 last year. The guaranteed purse for the class in 2015 is $60,000. This year, the Maiden 2-Year-Old WP Stakes class will take place Saturday afternoon on June 27th and will be accompanied by the Sale Stakes and BBQ.

There are 76 horses consigned in the Sale Stakes this year ranging from Hip #1- Shez The Good Kind, a bay filly by Zippos Mr Good Bar and out of The Good Kind to Hip #76- Huntin Sweet Spices, a gray filly by Huntin For Chocolate and out of Sweet Talkin Spice. Stallions represented in the sale include Zippos Mr Good Bar, Huntin For Chocolate, Nite Moves, RL Best of Sudden, Batt Man, Lazy Loper, Blazing Hot, Im A Platinum Dream, Getting Impulsive, VS Code Red, VS Flatline, HH Red Rock, Only Intuition, Machine Made, Diesel Only, Certain Potential, Im Good Undressed, Keeping It Good, and more.

The gross sales from the 2014 sale topped out at $894,450 with a sale average of $10,907 and a high seller of $74,000. The top 5 sale average was $45,400, and the top 10 sale average was $33,650.

One of the main events of the Futurity is scheduled for Saturday afternoon with the two Western Pleasure Super Sires classes: 3-Year-Old Open Non Pro Western Pleasure and 3-Year-Old Limited Non-Pro Western Pleasure. In order to participate in this prestigious class, horses must have been sired by one of the Western Pleasure Super Sires. The stallions enrolled for 2015 include A Touch Of Sudden, Blazing Hot, Certainly A Vision, Extremely Hot Chips, Gettin Impulsive, Good I Will Be, Struttin On The Range, How Bout This Cowboy, Hubba Hubba Huntin, Nite Moves, Presidential Order, Too Sleepy To Zip, One N Only, and VS Code Blue.

For the third year in a row, the Western Pleasure Super Sires classes will be presenting $10,000 in cold, hard cash to both the Open Non Pro and Limited Non Pro Champions in 3-Year-Old Western Pleasure, as they exit the arena!
