A total of $23,500 has now been pledged as reward for information leading to the capture and conviction of the individuals responsible for abusive attacks on three show horses at the 2015 Reining By The Bay event over the weekend at the Woodside Horse Park in Redwood City, California.

During the afternoon of July 25th, in the Grand Prix Barns, a leading Reining Performance Stallion was poisoned. Then, on July 26th, between midnight and 5:30 am, also in the Grand Prix Barns, a loop nail was driven into the hoof of a Reining Derby Champion Stallion and a Reining Futurity Champion Stallion was let loose from its stall.

If you have any information regarding these attacks, please contact Brumley Management Group at 602-677-3774 or email brumleymanagementgroup@gmail.com. All tips will be kept confidential.

Over the weekend, Amanda Brumley, Producer of Reining By The Bay, released the following statement:

“Brumley Management Group and RBB, Inc. are disgusted by these horrible acts of intentional abuse and intent to harm horses participating at this event. Every effort will be taken to find the person or persons who committed these acts. Every tip we receive will remain anonymous. We need your help to catch these people and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. We will use every resource we have available to us to make sure the perpetrator(s) pay for their crimes(s). Please call with any information you have. Feel free to call me directly at 602-316-6782.”

Since the time of the attack, Silver Spurs Equine has released details via their official Facebook page that the horse poisoned at the event was their 2009 stallion SG Frozen Enterprize (ICEMAN). In addition to the $10,000 being offered by Reining By The Bay, Silver Spurs Equine has indicated their intention to provide an additional $10,000. In addition to personal, private contributions, that brings the reward total to $23,500 for information leading to a conviction.

We were able to speak with Michelle Miola of Silver Spurs Equine this morning to find out about Iceman’s current condition and the status of the developing investigation.

“There are people now calling and adding to that reward total,” Miola says. “Someone called this morning and added $2,500. Someone else added $1,000, and I believe someone is setting up a PayPal account. This is the first time anything like this has ever happened to us. No one has ever tried to harm my horses before…”

“Iceman is going to be ok. My husband saw him this morning, and he is back at the ranch. He was lying down, resting, and eating. He seems to be good, and we’re hoping he will make a full recovery.”

As news of the attacks is beginning to spread and tips are rolling in, Miola expects that it won’t take too long to make an arrest. Reining By The Bay has indicated that video recordings from 24 hour security cameras have been obtained from the Woodside Horse Park and are currently under review. The case is deemed an ongoing investigation with reports filed with the San Mateo Country Sheriff’s Office, Peninsula Humane Society Investigative Division, and the NRHA.

A toxicology screening has been completed on Iceman. However, Miola is unsure if they will ever be able to determine what substance was used to poisoned her horse.

“They did a blood test, but it’s going to be hard to pinpoint what was used to poison him,” she says. “Especially since they had to give him other medications because he was colicking. With the video surveillance, we hope someone will be caught. This is a terrible thing to happen in our industry. This isn’t something you’d think could’ve been done by a person who’s around horses. I couldn’t imagine someone in the industry could do such a thing, but you never know. There are crazy people out there.”

This is a developing situation that will likely evolve in the days to come. Stay tuned to EquineChronicle.com for additional updates as they become available.

We would like to send our thoughts and prayers to the horse owners and horses affected by these attacks.
