Just by looking at the photos coming out of Bryan, Texas over the weekend, it’s obvious that the overarching theme at the 2014 Aggie Super Circuit Quarter Horse Show was all about fun, fun, fun! The event took place April 3-6 at the Brazos County Expo and was judged by Chele McGauly, Jan Hay, Jane Bagley, Bonnie Jo Clay, Doug Huls, Judd Paul, and Delena Doyle.

Some of the fun activities that exhibitors were treated to at the show included an Exhibitor’s Party with accompanying Texas Quarter Horse Youth Association fundraiser, horse and rider “selfie” contest, and the always popular “Where’s Woody” competition. Communications Chair for the Aggie Super Circuit, Blair Williamson, explains how show management incorporated the use of social media in an effort to increase exhibitor participation among the younger crowd.

“We had a horse and rider ‘selfie’ contest on Facebook where people submitted pictures of themselves and their horses,” Williamson says. “The photo with the most likes/shares won a western picture frame and a MasterCard gift card. We also have a wooden horse figurine known as ‘Woody’ that hides around the show grounds. Whoever finds and brings him back to the show office wins a prize.”

During the Exhibitor’s Party on Saturday evening, John McDaniel and Nancy Cahill donned costumes that transformed them into a “Cowboy King Charles” and “Colorful Clown” for their duties as hospitality servers. Also, “The Dessert Divas” served baked goods for tips in an effort to help raise money for the Texas Quarter Horse Youth Association Scholarship Fund. Thanks to the tasty treats and sugary sweets, over $1,500 was raised.

Although the show’s emphasis was on fun and promoting a family-friendly environment, there was no shortage of tough competition. Perhaps, that was because there were several qualification spots on the line for the upcoming 2014 AQHA Novice Championship Shows.

During the show, Novice Championship qualifying classes were offered in both novice amateur and novice youth categories in halter geldings and mares, showmanship, horsemanship, western pleasure, western riding, trail, reining, hunter under saddle, and hunt seat equitation. The top three competitors in each of the Novice Champion of Champions classes  were recognized as Texas State Qualifiers and became eligible to enter either the 2014 AQHA Novice Championship show in Murfreesboro, TN or Las Vegas, NV. Congratulations to the following Champion of Champion winners!
