It was announced in mid-July that Reiners Giving Back, a north-Texas group, had created the First Annual Reiners Giving Back event, featuring Casey Deary, Jason Vanlandingham, and Tim McQuay! It will be a day filled with education and fellowship, all while supporting Rein In Cancer and the Reining Horse Foundation! All profits from the first annual Reiners Giving Back event will go directly to these important non-profit groups.

Set for Thursday, October 20th, the day-long event will provide an educational venue in the form of three clinic sessions. Reiners have always been known for their friendly attitudes and generous spirits, but most of all, they are famous for craving information about the sport of Reining, always wanting to learn more and strive for that perfect run. What better mentors could be found than three of the top riders in the world – Casey Deary, Jason Vanlandingham, and Tim McQuay?

Organizer Mandy McCutcheon said, “That Thursday is the beginning of such a great weekend in our area – with the Legacy Sale going on and the Southwest Reining Horse Association Futurity getting started. Both events draw a lot of people, so it seemed to be a good time to create something to give back to the Reining Horse Foundation and to Rein in Cancer.”

For McCutcheon, both causes are important. “I serve on the board of the Reining Horse Foundation and want to help our industry through contributing to it. Of course, after losing my grandmother to cancer, I always support Rein In Cancer and the amazing job Cheryl Cody and Shorty Koger do with that organization.”

Cheryl Magoteaux Cody, President of Rein in Cancer, was quick to express her appreciation of the event. “The Reining industry has long been a supporter of Rein in Cancer and we appreciate this new commitment and this innovative event. Continuing to raise money is so important so we can continue to help cancer patients whose funds have been depleted by long-term care and missing work time. For those in the horse industry, horses still need hay and bills keep coming in. Often a payment can make all the difference!”

She adds, “The Southwest Reining Horse Association Futurity has been another big supporter of Rein in Cancer, so it’s great that people can come for the clinic and then stay and compete in the Futurity!”

All three clinicians are donating their time for the cause. NRHA Professional Casey Deary of Weatherford, Texas, has earned over a Million Dollars in National Reining Horse Association competition. Known as a devoted family man, he has his own cheerleaders in his wife Nicole and their children: Wyatt, Joy, Owen, and Olivia. They have had plenty to cheer about in recent years as Casey is a two-time NRHA Futurity Champion, NRHA Derby Champion, and AQHA Reining World Champion as well as garnering top finishes at every major event. Jason Vanlandingham has been on an incredible winning streak in recent years. The NRHA Million Dollar Rider and his wife, Adrienne, own and operate Vanlandingham Reining Horses located in Whitesboro, Texas. Jason began training professionally in the summer of 1998 and built his current facility in the fall of 2005. To date, Jason has accumulated many Futurity and Derby Championships, including the coveted NRHA Open Futurity and NRHA Open Derby titles, as well as the NRBC Championship, and Top 5 finishes at every major NRHA event. Tim McQuay has long been an icon in the Reining world, winning every major NRHA event, and garnering Team Gold at the World Equestrian Games. He is an NRHA Hall of Fame inductee, with over $3 million in lifetime earnings. In addition, Tim has long been an innovator in the industry along with his wife, Colleen, maintaining one of the most prolific breeding operations in history, McQuay Stables, located in Tioga, Texas. The organization has no employees – only volunteers – and over 98% of donated funds have gone directly to helping cancer patients. Currently, Rein in Cancer makes direct payments to people in the Reining industry being treated for cancer. As part of the commitment to helping patients, payment is usually sent within 24 hours of receipt of a simple application. For information, visit the Rein In Cancer website at www.reinincancer.com.

The Reining Horse Sports Foundation was created in 1999 and established as a charitable organization in 2001 to act as a supporting organization for the National Reining Horse Association. Now known simply as Reining Horse Foundation, it is supported by members and non-members and established specifically for enthusiasts, in an effort to develop and enhance the sport of Reining worldwide through five core programs, such as youth, RHSF Crisis Fund, Hall of Fame, International Growth and Research, Development and Education.
