When you look at the top breeding and showing programs in the Halter horse industry today, two titans stand above the rest. Prince Farm, LLC, based out of Palmetto, Florida, brought you the bloodlines of the late MH Supremo and his successful sons PF Premo and Chromed Up. Bushy Park Farm Quarter Horses, of Aubrey, Texas, is home to stallions like Telasecret, Fearles, IEM The One, Ikon, and Suchan Ego. Now, the two are joining forces to create a unique partnership/merger.

Recently, we spoke with Dewey and Tammi Smith to find out more about this new endeavor that all began with the offer of an exciting new opportunity right here in the heart of Texas horse country. After receiving a job offer from Steve Robinson, owner of Bushy Park Farm, to manage his training operation, Dewey Smith sought the blessing of his good friends, Chester and Anne Prince.

“First, we went to Chester and talked to him, because we’ve loved working for them and would never want to leave on bad terms, but this would be a big step for our family,” Dewey says. “He did feel like this was a great move for our family, to be right in the middle of the horse community in Aubrey and Pilot Point. They supported that, but would like to be able to continue to show with us.”

With the Prince family coming along, Dewey accepted the job of head trainer at Bushy Park Farm, where he will join Breeding Manager Clark Rassi, Farm Manager Daryl Lankin, and owner Steve Robinson. Also making the move from Florida to Texas to join the Bushy Park Farm lineup of stallions will be PF Premo and Chromed Up.

“Between Steve, Dewey, and Chester, they put a deal together where some of the broodmares, PF Premo, and Chromed Up will now be full time residents at Bushy Park Farm,” Tammi says. “Chester and Anne still want to enjoy the horse industry but are looking to take things a little slower. They are both very excited to be showing under the Bushy Park Farm colors.”

“We’ve been describing this as a beautiful merger of two of the top breeders in the Halter horse industry,” Dewey says. “We’ve already done so much business together that it just made sense to join forces. Tammi and I feel so lucky and blessed because we have the best of both worlds. Going to work for such a forward-thinking horseman like Steve Robinson but still being able to train horses for amazing people like Anne and Chester Prince is an incredible opportunity. Luckily, everything happened at the right time.”

Dewey Smith will continue to have outside horses in training and will begin operations at Bushy Park Farm around the first of May 2015.

We would like to send our congratulations to Prince Farm and Bushy Park Farm on this exciting new endeavor and wish them the very best of luck.
