More than $40,000 has been added to the reining challenge classes at the 2017 APHA Open/Amateur World Championship Show, taking place September 20–October 1 in Fort Worth, Texas—now, there are more reasons than ever to saddle up and slide your Paint to a big payday. This year, the challenge classes will be leveled using NRHA’s edibility criteria with three levels taking place concurrently.

This year’s gathering will feature Olympic, Pan American, World Equestrian Games, and World Champion greats including Greg Best, Phillip Dutton, Craig Johnson, Steffen Peters and Suzy Stafford as well as outstanding overall horsemen such as Ken McNabb, Julie Goodnight, Van Hargis, Chris Irwin, Steve Lantvit, and Wendy Murdoch. Clinic topics will cover the gamut from the English disciplines of dressage, jumping, eventing, driving, and English pleasure through the western sports of cutting, reining, western pleasure, ranch riding, cowboy dressage, and trail. Sessions will also be presented on liberty horse training, mounted games, the training of easy gaited horses, vaulting, and more.

AQHA Hall of Fame Unveils Special Display For 2017 Inductees

Four men and one woman were inducted in March during the 2017 AQHA Convention: AQHA Past President Peter J. Cofrancesco III of Sparta, New Jersey; AQHA Executive Committee member, the late Dick Monahan from Walla Walla, Washington; Bobby D. Cox of Fort Worth, Texas; the late Marvin Barnes of Ada, Oklahoma; and trainer and horsewoman Sandra Vaughn of Hernando, Florida. Five horses were also inducted: 1987 racing stallion Strawfly Special, 1985 western pleasure stallion Zips Chocolate Chip, 1994 show gelding Majestic Scotch, 1961 barrel racing mare Casey’s Ladylove and 1983 racing mare Dashing Phoebe.
