At the age of 17, Beatrice was heading to the United States from Brussels, when a terrorist, standing right beside her, detonated a bomb. Beatrice lost both her legs and endured a tough recovery. While in recovery, her coach brought her horse DeeDee to visit Beatrice, and from then on, Beatrice was committed to returning back to the saddle—no matter what it took. Her perseverance has led to a successful career in the Para Dressage ring and has earned her a ticket to the ParalympicsTM in Tokyo to compete for Team USA.
