“While many of our halter exhibitors lobbied in favor of lip chains at the 2015 convention, the Executive Committee members – based on input from the Animal Welfare Commission, the Show Committee and Show Council – believe that the use of lip chains in halter classes is not the intended use for lip chains – especially in the hands of novice exhibitors. It’s simply not humane,” Dr. Blodgett said.

Becky sustained a concussion when a young colt she was riding fell to the ground. After being airlifted to the neurological ICU department at the University of Virginia Hospital, she was quickly met by husband Steve, who was judging in Murfreesboro, TN. at the time of the accident.

The sperm, embryos and oocytes from foals born in 2015 or after will not be able to be used beyond two calendar years following that animal’s death or sterilization to register a foal with AQHA, based on a new rule approved by the AQHA Board of Directors at the 2015 AQHA Convention in March in Fort Worth, Texas.
