The America’s Horse in Art: Versatility & Art Field Trip welcomed 448 middle and high school students on October 2 and 3 to the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum in Amarillo. Students attended sessions with featured artists from the 10th annual America’s Horse in Art exhibit to learn about technique, equine anatomy and how to pursue art as a career.

Students from 12 different schools attended the field trip and enjoyed sessions with artists Kathryn Leitner, Edgar Sotelo and Tammy Lynne Penn.

“Thank you for all the work and effort everyone put into the last few days and of course the upcoming art show,” said Shawn Kennedy of Caprock High School. “My students enjoyed participating over the years and have grown to appreciate the Quarter Horse because of the endeavors by your institution.”

The field trip was free to registered schools and students, courtesy of the American Quarter Horse Foundation and the Josephine Anderson Charitable Trust. Funding for transportation was also made available for applicants.

The field trip is a precursor to the Foundation’s annual Youth Art Show at the Museum. The Youth Art Show teaches kids about the American Quarter Horse and gives them the opportunity to express what they’ve learned through art. Students compete for prizes and the opportunity to have their art displayed at the Museum.
