Luke Castle and Telling My Secretz

The first two stallion classes of the 2013 All American Quarter Horse Congress have already been completed this morning in Columbus, Ohio. Taking the Congress Champion title in Weanling Stallions was Luke Castle with Telling My Secretz. This was another catch-lead for trainer Andy Staton, who had much success at the show yesterday winning the Congress Grand Champion Mare title for Josh Weakly with Elusive Premonition.

Castle led the beautiful bay colt today for owner Linda Clark, who plans to show him back in the amateur division.

“He’s beautiful and pretty-headed,” Castle says. “He’s got a lot of stuff to him. He’s a really nice colt. He reminds me of Ima Cool Skip, when he was a baby. He’s real pretty-legged. He is by Telesecret and, I believe, out of a Top Secret mare. Dick Adams in Illinois raised him.”

When asked what makes this young colt such an excellent competitor for the weanling age division, Castle praised the horse’s correct conformation and stunning looks.

“It’s his overall correctness and his muscling,” Castle says. “He’s got a tremendous amount of muscling for a baby. He has a long pretty hip. He’s correct and real pretty-headed. Today, he looks great.”

Castle will show the stallion again later this afternoon in the Grand and Reserve portion of the class. The winners of each stallion age division will join this young colt to battle it out for the ultimate stallion title.

“I haven’t thought about a weanling being Grand,” Castle says. “I think it would be really hard to do, but we’re going to try!”

Castle is frequently seen at the lead for trainer Andy Staton here at the Congress. We asked him what is essential to making their partnership work like a well-oiled machine.

“We’ve done a lot of business,” he says. “We sell horses and show them. It works out real well. He always has them ready to go.”

The Reserve Champion in this class was Dewey Smith with PF Credentials for Chester and Ann Prince. Rounding out the top three was Jason Smith with Kids Fearless Style.
