Longe Line

When a horse is only a yearling, a good judge must be able to identify a future prospect for Western pleasure or hunter under saddle. In longe line classes, it is important for both judges and exhibitors to understand the movement, conformation and demeanor a yearling must possess in order to succeed.

New to the HorseIQ Library are longe line videos from the 2017 APHA World Championship Show. Use these videos to improve your understanding of the class judging priorities and scoring system, to practice judging and scoring each run, and to understand the nuances that compile to create a winning performance.

In addition to these videos, you will find links to view the judges’ scorecards from the World Show event, providing you a way to compare your scores to how the judges scored the class.

“The library is an incredibly valuable resource that anyone can use to further develop their skill and knowledge of judging multiple different disciplines. These longe line videos will help exhibitors enhance their knowledge and performances, and we look forward to adding more videos from other events into the library soon,” APHA Director of Judges, Shows & Education David Dellin said.

Ranch Riding

PHJ release by: Jessica Hein

Ranch trail has exploded in popularity since it was added to the approved class lineup several years ago. Designed to test a horse’s skills in real-world ranch scenarios, this class features more “natural” obstacles, like negotiating tree limbs, small jumps, a weighted drag and even live cattle in some cases.

New to the HorseIQ Library are ranch trail videos from the 2017 APHA World Championship Show.

“Ranch trail is an exciting and popular class within APHA, but judging emphasis areas are a bit different than traditional ‘show’ trail. By watching actual runs from the APHA World Show and comparing them to the official judges’ scoresheets in our HorseIQ library, exhibitors can start to understand the priorities for this class from a judge’s point of view and how to improve their own performances in this fun new event,” APHA Director of Judges, Shows & Education David Dellin said.
