Lane Kail Finishes His 2023 AQHYA World Show with a Flourish by Winning Gold with Battarang

Lane with the amazing Kail Family – three generations of horsemen.

Imagine competing at a World Championship Show one day in a particular discipline with two different horses, and then the next day, switching horses and disciplines completely.

On top of doing that, imagine winning a different World Championship title in each discipline!
It sounds extremely challenging, but that’s exactly what Lane Kail did at the 2023 AQHYA World Championship Show this past week.  And he seemed to take it all in stride.

On Thursday, August 3rd, Lane Kail rode his Palomino horse, Winn Like Flinn, in the finals of a class that began with 90 exhibitors – L3 Youth 14-18 Ranch Riding.  When the results were announced, Lane and Winn Like Flinn were Bronze Champions with a score of 238.50!

Earlier in the show, the duo finished 4th and NSBA Champion in the L2 Youth Ranch Riding!  Lane and his other Palomino, Charleston LK, also finished 5th in the L2 Youth Ranch Riding.

Then the very next day on Friday, August 4th, the versatile exhibitor changed to riding Battarang, a 2017 gelding by Batt Man and out of Lopen My Blues Away, in the finals of a tough and much anticipated L3 Youth 14-18 Western Pleasure class that began with 34 entries.

When the results were announced, Lane and Battarang were World Champions!

The talented young man is also often a man of few words when it comes to media attention, so when asked about his success in the class upon exiting the arena, his humble words were naturally about his respect for his horse.

Lane says the gelding they call “Judi” is very patient with him even when he’s occasionally stressed out.

“We have a lot of early mornings where I’m not completely in the zone, and he’s always been there for me and has shown up when it matters most,” says Lane.  “He never fails to amaze us; he’s one in a million, and I’m forever grateful to show this horse.”

Congratulations to Lane and all the winners!  See results below:
