APHA is pleased to welcome Kindred Biosciences Inc. as a 2017 Continuing Education/Science Scholarship sponsor. As part of this new relationship, KindredBio will award two individual scholarships to APHA members.

KindredBio’s mission is to offer animal family members the same innovative, breakthrough medicines enjoyed by humans. Among its products in development are Zimeta™ (dipyrone injection) for fever in horses, anti-TNF monoclonal antibody for sepsis in foals, a novel product for equine gastric ulcer syndrome, and a novel product for equine metabolic syndrome.

In keeping with KindredBio’s mission, the company is sponsoring scholarship opportunities for qualified APHA members. Applicants must:

  • Be an APHA member in good standing, age 19 or older as of January 1, 2017
  • Be pursuing a degree in the science field
  • Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Hold a current APHA Amateur card and regional club membership

Scholarship recipients are selected by a review team comprised of APHA board and staff members as well as a KindredBio representative. Recipients will be announced in August, and the scholarships will be presented during the APHA Open/Amateur World Championship Show in September.

“The opportunity to provide these scholarship opportunities to APHA members aligns very well with two of our passions at KindredBio: science and equine animal health. We are thrilled to be partnered with APHA, an organization that is committed to its members and the horses they ride,” KindredBio Co-Founder and COO Denise Bevers said.

APHA Director of Amateur Activities Savanna Robbins is excited about this opportunity as well.

“We are so honored a business like KindredBio has chosen to support APHA’s young adult members. We know it is difficult for our Amateurs to make a decision between continuing to show their Paint Horse and being able to afford higher education. This scholarship sponsored by KindredBio is an excellent incentive for our young riders to continue participating in the APHA programs as well as continuing their education,” she said.

KindredBio understands the importance of support in both educational and recreational pursuits.

“As an active APHA member and equine veterinarian, the commitment of KindredBio to the partnership with APHA is deeply rewarding,” said KindredBio’s Director of Veterinary Affairs Valentine Williams, D.V.M., MS, Diplomate ACVS. “One of the key focus areas for KindredBio is education and support of students.  The scholarship opportunity is one way KindredBio is promoting science within our industry through building youth leaders.”
