In Honor of AQHA’s 75th Anniversary, “They Still Ride Good Horses”

In honor of the American Quarter Horse Association’s 75th anniversary, author Jim Jennings wrote about the Association’s past 25 years. The book tells about the trials and tribulations of what is still the largest equine breed registry in the world from 1990 through 2014.

“They Still Ride Good Horses” is a continuation of “They Rode Good Horses,” a chronicle of the first 50 years of AQHA written by Don Hedgpeth.

AQHA is the largest equine breed registry in the world, with its horses grazing in every corner of almost every continent. From its beginning 75 years ago, when a handful of ranchers sat down and formed a set of bylaws, to the multi-million-dollar operation it is today, AQHA has had no peer.

“AQHA’s 75-year history was not easy,” Jennings wrote. “The Association, from the beginning, was fraught with conflict, conflict that at times pulled at its very roots. But, always, cooler heads prevailed, and the organization, through the years became stronger and stronger.”
