You never know how you’ll end up meeting your other half. For Greg Davis and Dr. GiGi Wood Davis, it seems as if it was always meant to be.
Greg grew up on a horse ranch in Tennessee. He showed his first horse in AQHA competition when he was just seven years old.

“My mother still tells the story to this day. When my dad came to pick us up at the hospital, he had to stop by and look at a horse before he took us home,” Greg laughs. “I always loved horses. I wish I didn’t, and that Daddy had played dominoes instead. But I’d get on my 50 Honda (dirt bike) in the springtime, ride out in the pasture, sit on a bucket, and play with the babies.”

Greg’s favorite events were Halter and Showmanship. Little known fact: Greg was Third in Showmanship at the 1977 Quarter Horse Congress in an entry of 146.

Just a few states to the west, a similarly horse-obsessed little girl was getting her start as well. GiGi grew up on a Quarter Horse ranch in Arkansas. She started showing horses at the age of six.

“When I was four years old, my dad got me my first pony. When I was in kindergarten, I got my first horse–a gaited horse named ‘Silverware’. He was passed down to my little sister and eventually grandaddy ended up with him. I rode him every day,” she says.

GiGi started out at local shows and fairs where she did speed events and barrel racing. Once she progressed to AQHA shows, her brother and sister were doing Western Pleasure, so she wanted to join in, too. That led to a career in all-around classes.
