Dozer and Annie are Tops on Tuesday at The Madness

Filed under: Around The Ring Galleries,Featured,Sponsor News |

From NSBA:

Tuesday was a wild weather day at The Madness AQHA and NSBA show at the World Equestrian Center in Wilmington, Ohio, with multiple threats of tornadoes and strong thunderstorms; however, the exhibitors were calm and cool as they competed for more than $5,300 in two NSBA classes.

Momma Knows About ‘Dozer’: Three Year Old Hunter Under Saddle

Jamie English piloted Doze Yo Momma Know to the head of the class in the $1,000 Added NSBA Three Year Old Open Hunter Under Saddle Futurity. She and ‘Dozer’ earned a check for $756 for owner Kelly Smith.

“Dozer is by Allocate Your Assets and out of The Last Wahoo, and is the last foal out of that mare,” Jamie said. “Beth Case had him for a while as a yearling, and we bought him out of Nebraska last November from Nancy Keegan. They’re both big supporters and cheer us on. Since we’ve only been together for about six months, we’re still getting to know each other.”

Jamie showed the flashy bay gelding for the first time in Ocala. “We’re still learning about each other,” she said. “He lopes so big. He’s a very sweet horse and he wants to be in your pocket all the time. He’s just kind.”

Jamie and Kelly have a history of finding prospects for the Three Year Old Open Hunter Under Saddle, and most recently had success with Super Freek. “Dozer was the only one we looked at,” Jamie said. “Jason said this is the one we should buy – we just loved his look. In fact this is the second one Jason has picked out and he named them both.”

‘Doubl’ The Fun In Maturity $5K Limited Western Pleasure

The $2,500 added NSBA Maturity $5,000 Limited Horse Western Pleasure placings by judges Elizabeth Baker, Jeff Mellott, Eric Petersen and Buddy Fisher resulted in a tie for first place. The tiebreaker judge determined Doubl Or Nothin, shown by Shannon Curl Holbin for Haley Purkapile, to take home the NSBA bronze, while the trio split the first and second place prize money with Americann Made and Adam Mathis, showing for Nettie Olsen. Each received $1,258.

“I’ve had Annie since she was two, and she’s four now,” Shannon explained. “She took a little longer to get ready to show. She’s by Certainly A Vision and out of an RL Best Of Sudden mare. Jane Backes bred her. She’s very easy and very fun to show. She shows how she warms up – so what you see is what you get. She’s very honest, and I love her personality. She really goes around with her ears up and is just pleasant. She’s also very striking with all the white she has. Today she had a very good topline and she showed well in all three gears.”

Shannon and Haley plan to show Annie in Limited Horse Western Pleasure classes and Color events until if or when she sells. “Haley’s horses are always for sale. She’s a $1,000 Limited horse so she has a few classes she can go in, and she’s double registered APHA and AQHA, hence her name, Doubl Or Nothin,” Shannon explained.

The Madness continues through Sunday, May 12. To view complete show results, please visit the Horse Show Tracker app.
