An EC Blog by Jennifer Sawyer:
Don’t be a wanna be….
Wanna be blowing up show club posts how they didn’t add your class or took out your division when you haven’t shown in years and don’t plan to.
Wanna be posting hateful comments on sale ads when you’ve never ridden that discipline, or have any interest or the funding to buy that horse or ANY horse in the first place.
Wanna be telling people how they are using the wrong bit, it’s too severe or it’s illegal to show in when you ride your trail horse in a Tom Thumb upside down with no curb strap and a one piece roping rein.
Wanna be posting hateful comments on a child’s winning ride video, how their horse is lame and abused when you have never shown in your life and never ridden in your backyard faster than a walk.
Wanna be complaining about a Judge’s placing or how they scored a run when you’ve never looked at a rule book or even shown in or trained for the class you are judge bashing about.
Wanna be complaining about the cost of lessons or a clinic when you are the one who dumps hundreds of dollars into showing and always goes home without a single ribbon.
Wanna be hating on a beautifully turned out banded and shined up horse, saying they are abused being stall kept in a blanket, when your own horse lives on a mud lot without a blade of grass, bleached and hairy and hasn’t seen a good grooming or a bath in months.
Wanna be posting nasty comments on an Olympic rider’s style or position when you haven’t ridden in 30 years and you’ve never had a lesson or attended a clinic in your life.
Wanna be the rider that believes more is better and pushes their horse through pain, saying it’s disobedience. Then is upset when their lame horse is excused from competition.
Let’s not be a wanna be…let’s be a worker bee. Let’s work to encourage, not discourage. If you disagree with what someone says, does, or is, move on. Just because you don’t understand it doesn’t mean it’s wrong. Just because it’s different doesn’t mean it’s wrong.
Spread love and encouragement, not hate and negativity. There is no place for your poor attitude and actions speak louder than words.
