When Colton Pylman showed Hot Impulses to a win in the $40,000 NSBA Ltd Rider Senior Trail for Kate Upton at The Championship 2025, Becky George told him he could say goodbye to his limited status after this.
Colton, who rides for Becky George Show Horses, has only shown “Zach” a handful of times, but he has known the gelding was super special from the first time they saw him at Congress a few years ago, followed by his purchase. “It has been a long road to get to where we are, but he has truly stepped up and become a great horse,” says Colton of the a 2018 gelding by One Hot Chocolate and out of Impulse Be Good.
He explains the pattern for the class really set Zach apart “because he is so big and he’s lofty and he’s soft to the ground. He holds the ground super good. I had two hits and maybe it was me, maybe it was him being lazy. I’m not really sure, but it was a great pattern, and it was super fun to show.” The pair scored a top score of 232.5.
Colton adds that the last trot serpentine was probably the challenging maneuver that stood out because the poles were high and a lot of guidance was required, but he says Hot Impulses was great through that obstacle. “He guided great and I couldn’t have asked him to be better.”
On the horizon for Saturday night, Becky will show Zach in the $100,000 Senior Trail. Colton explains that he’s excited to watch, and he’s amazed at the payouts possible at the show. He says, “I’m truly so fortunate to be here, and I’m so grateful for this horse and Becky letting me show him, and I wish Kate could have been here to be able to see him. I’m so thankful every time we get to show here.”
