Around the Rings at The Keystone Showdown

The Keystone Showdown kicked off June 19th with an all Novice AQHA show, judged by Bruce Brown and Amber Clark. Historically, this has been the #1 AQHA Novice show in the country since 2014! The main AQHA show took place June 20-23 and was judged by Jeff Allen, Melissa Dukes, Jeff Mellott, Curtis Reynolds, and Andrea Simons.

This event will be open to trainers, amateurs, and youth. There is a $2,000 pot with placings to extend from first through sixth. Each exhibitor and horse combo will be auctioned off in a calcutta prior to the class with 50% of the proceeds to be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Decorated Stallion, Only In The Moonlite, Has Passed

The next several pieces of the “planned success” puzzle were put together when Darol Rodrock entered the picture. Rodrock purchased Only In The Moonlite in September of 2007 and Moonie’s success as a breeding stallion was set into motion. Darol is a man who loves horses and, as in everything else Darol does, he did his best to do it right. He gave Moonie the opportunity to become a sire. Darol had one of the best sets of broodmares in the industry, and he began building one of the top breeding programs in the country. He decided to make breeding fees affordable again, and this attracted a large group of dedicated mare owners who bred to Moonie year after year.

A full 10 days of AQHA showing are underway at the Rolling Hills Equestrian Center in Corning, CA. Beginning on June 12th and continuing through June 14th, the Quarter Horse Exhibitors Association of California held their Summer Show as a prelude to the Oregon Quarter Horse Association’s Summer Classic. The Oregon Summer Classic began on June 16th and will continue through June 21st.

The Nebraska Quarter Horse Association recently kicked off their Cornhusker Classic horse show June 14th and it will continue through June 23rd. The AQHA, NQHA, and NSBA approved show provides six full shows at the Lancaster Event Center in Lincoln. Judges include Jeff Greaves, Pierre Briere, Tonya Brown, Nancy Sue Ryan, Larry Hansch, Derek Hanscome, TW Grose, Eric Petersen, and Lisa Ligon.

I was in middle school when the tragedy happened, and I remember watching it all unfold on TV. I just knew… I got home and my mother and I just crumbled because that was it. You hoped, you prayed, but you knew… It really broke us as a family.”
