“We were in Hurricane Andrew in 1992 and remember the devastation. It was awful, with loose and mangled horses. These horses are an important part of our family and we want to do our best to make sure they are safe. This time, we’re seeking shelter inland and evacuating 7 horses to the Florida Horse Park. Throughout this whole process, the FHP has been so pleasant and accommodating. They’ve made the process so much easier and less stressful,” said Jessica Merritt, a Hurricane Irma Evacuee from near Homestead.

Strong winds and rising flood waters destroyed fences and displaced large numbers of livestock. TAHC is coordinating with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension to establish livestock supply points in areas of critical need, and with Texas Department of Agriculture to receive and distribute donations of hay and livestock feed. TAHC requested the services of Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers (TSCRA) Special Rangers to assist in capturing stray livestock and returning them to rightful owners.

Effective January 1, 2018, youth and amateur exhibitors will incur a three-point penalty if they bring the calf over backwards with the calf landing on its back or head with all four feet in the air. Open exhibitors will incur a disqualification (no score) if the calf is brought over backwards with the calf landing on its back or head with all four feet in the air.
