During her day job, Rear Admiral Christina Shanahan manages all of the US Navy medicine facilities east of the Mississippi and Europe. But today, she turned in her stethoscope for stirrups in the Masters Amateur Junior Hunter Under Saddle at the 2013 APHA World Show.

Big winners in the over fence classes included Mason Lyon with PJ Loud Opposition in Preliminary Working Hunter, Ellen Gibson with Gallant Invitation in Novice Amateur Working Hunter, Lisa Cherry With Tommys In Town in Amateur Working Hunter, and Karen Banister with Dashing In Blue in Junior Working Hunter.

In an interesting piece by The Columbus Dispatch, Executive Director of OQHA, Dr. Scott Myers, along with other local officials discussed the fact that the single largest breed horse show in the world, the All American Quarter Horse Congress, may have outgrown the Columbus fairgrounds.

“It was so exciting! I’ve had seven Reserve World Champions but never had one win,” Wagner says.”

“We lost all eight of my World Show horses and Summer’s two horses. All of the horses were going to the World Show next week. Another week and it all would’ve been different…”

Tonight, Starnes was in the saddle for Gavin and Rebecca Rawlings of Australia, who received a whopping $50,000 check for their horse’s big win.
