Around the Rings – 2024 Arizona Sun Circuit – Monday, March 4th

Filed under: Around The Ring Galleries,Featured,Show Results & Gallery |

On Monday at the 2024 Arizona Sun Circuit, it was another busy day with all arenas packed with plenty of action, including disciplines like showmanship, hunter under saddle, ranch events, equitation, and cattle classes.

That morning, Eric Mendrysa (pictured above with Never Sudden, who won the L3 Amateur Showmanship Monday) of EM Design & Photography treated us to a glimpse of the past weekend’s versatility of the American Quarter Horse in this stunning video collage:

In addition, we visited with Trish Sarchett (formerly Trish Hamilton), after she won a big class of Amateur Select Working Western Rail with Mylanta Time, aka “Rosie,” a horse she set the bar with back in 2021 before this was an AQHA approved class – that year at the World Show, they won the Amateur Working Western Rail Stakes class.

Trish, who is celebrating 50 years of showing this year with the 2013 red roan mare (Mylanta Lena-Justin Time 001 by Alfana 194), showed all around most of her life, and she has been focusing more on ranch events in the past few years.

What has it been like focusing more on Ranch as her primary discipline? “It has been fun, because I’ve had quite a few horses who didn’t necessarily make an all around or a reiner, so it’s been nice to transition into the ranch to find an event the horses like to do,” she says. She hasn’t quite given up her all around roots, however, as she’s still showing in horsemanship and equitation on her reiner as well, to quite a bit of success.

Trish has had this mare for four years now, and she explains, “Rosie is great to trail ride and show, she says, and I can do whatever I want on her, which is fun.”

Since she grew up showing at Sun Circuit, she says it’s wonderful to see the show grow to what it has become over the last 50 years she’s shown here. “It is great having the show in my backyard (she’s an Arizona resident), but it also makes it harder because I still have to work!”

To top off the day, we chatted with Jana Simons of the renowned Simons family, after she and Gimme Ur Best Stuff won their L2 Horsemanship and L2 Showmanship in two days.  As lawyer with a busy practice, Jana reveals more about her work/life balance and what it’s like jumping back in the saddle after working all week.
