Watching the Kentucky Derby is an unparalleled experience for horse lovers of all disciplines. As one horsewoman and all-around competitor once explained, “As horsemen, we understand all the work and emotion behind the scenes, so for us, that makes watching it even more momentous.”
Imagine getting to experience it firsthand! That was the case for some of our EC friends, and specifically, we heard from Brooke Davis and Gretchen Richter.
Not only were they present for history being made, but both horse lovers had their own causes for celebration.
“It was our first time there, and we were glad to have the opportunity to witness history as the first female trainer winning the derby and the fact that the winning jockey won both the Oaks and the Derby!” says Brooke Davis. “It was such a close and exciting race!”
By the way, Brooke and Jason Weigle made their own history by getting engaged! Congratulations to both of you! The Equine Chronicle wishes you a lifetime of love and happiness.
Gretchen Richter, who visited with a beloved group of family and friends, had this to say:
“This was such a surreal experience with the best people. It was magical witnessing history being made today. The first ever woman trainer to win the derby and then the first and second place winners were brothers. Thank you so much Cyndi Swanson Richter for the best trip. You’re the best.”
“I also made the news 🫢,” she explained.
She did indeed! Check out the Fashion Forecast link below from Breeders’ Cup World Championships:
