Anne Wilson and Visible Investment Win Select Showmanship For the Fourth Year in a Row

There isn’t much more that can be said about the indomitable Anne Wilson of Dallas, Texas, because her impressive accolades speak for themselves.

This afternoon at the 2013 AQHA Adequan Select World Show, Wilson continued her unprecedented winning streak by claiming the title of Select Showmanship World Champion for the fourth year in a row. At the end of the lead was her faithful mount, Visible Investment, a 13-year-old bay gelding by Investment Asset and out of Visibly Royal.

Mrs. Wilson is one busy lady, who quickly traded in her sparkling showmanship attire for a pair of breeches and boots to compete in the Hunt Seat Equitation preliminaries just three classes after her big win. She was first in the arena and, thanks to a successful pattern, she will be returning for the Equitation finals tomorrow.

“I made it back for the finals of Horsemanship at 8:00 am,” she says. “That’s followed by the Western Riding preliminaries at around 9:30. Then, I have the Equitation finals around 4:00. I have a busy day tomorrow, and it will be an important day, but I’m excited for it.”

Although she doesn’t have much time to reflect on her record-setting win before beginning preparations for tomorrow’s events, she was able to take a moment and tell us exactly what this fourth Showmanship World Championship title means to her.

“I was just telling my husband that I can’t believe that I’ve been coming to the World Show every year and competing with an animal, and I’ve been able to do that well. Animals are unpredictable, but for some reason, when my horse gets to the World Show, he is very consistent. I’m very grateful.”

“[John and Jill Briggs] are very good showmanship coaches, as evidence by not only my track record but from the Youth World where Rebecca Anderson won. That was really fun to watch, because I let her wear my World Champion jacket from last year. It was kind of like watching the daughter that I didn’t have!”

Wilson is quite confident in “Dudley’s” ability to pull through and provide an impressive pattern when it counts, but that isn’t to say that she never gets nervous. On the contrary, the night before the Showmanship finals she hardly got any sleep at all.

“I think it gets harder every year,” she says. “I’m very wiped out tonight. The night before the preliminaries, I woke up at two in the morning, and I couldn’t go back to sleep. I always feel like the preliminaries of Showmanship is my most stressful. My mind was all jazzed up, and I’m sure that’s why I couldn’t fall back asleep.”

“Last night, we needed to practice showmanship and hunt seat equitation, because I was first to go in the class today. We practiced from midnight until two. I wasn’t really happy with my ride so I never fell back asleep. I haven’t had any sleep since I took a nap before practice at ten last night!”

We hope that both Wilson and Dudley will be getting some well-deserved rest before the competition continues tomorrow. We wish this dynamic duo the best of luck.

The Reserve World Champion and also first place Intermediate Champion in the class was Linda Coakley with Patsys Royal Secret, a brown gelding by Make My Grey and out of Patsys Chic. Third place was Cindy Nakahara with Versionaire, a bay mare by Good Version and out of Fancy Strutter.

The second place Intermediate Champion was Ruby Due Good with Rebecca Pease Shelton. The third place Intermediate Champion was Todd Lee with Catch A Glowing Star.

The judges for the class today were Cindy Hale, Don Bell, Cynthia Rucker, Lisa Krohn, and Andrea Simons.
